About the Library...
Darby Community Public Library is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the town of Darby and the Ravalli County Commissioners. The Board meets once a month at meetings open to the public.
The library was honored in 2005 by the Montana Library Association as Montana’s Library of the Year.
September 2004 was the grand opening our the new library building. The building was built in partnership with the Forest Service and is a national demonstration building for use of small diameter timber.
Donations/Funding
Darby Community Public Library is supported by a mill levied by the county. Gifts of books, periodicals and money are always welcome. Donated materials may be added to the library collection or saved for the annual book sale. Donations are tax deductible.
Friends of the Library
The Friends of the Darby Library help promote better library services through special programs and fund-raising. The Friends meet monthly. Please call the library for more information.

MISSION STATEMENT
It is the mission of the Darby Community Public Library to provide free and viable library services to our patrons and to augment and enhance the educational, recreational and cultural needs of our community .
The main entrance of the library is adjacent to the city park on Main Street.

Library Card
Borrowing privileges are free.
In order to obtain a library card, a patron must present two pieces of current identification, one showing a current mailing address, the other a current photo ID.
Library cards are issued “family style”. This means that an adult who applies for a card may include other members of their household on their application. Individual library cards will be issued to each person listed on the application.
There is never a charge for initial registration or an address change but $1 will be charged for replacement cards.
Checking Out Materials
Materials may be checked out for three weeks.
Materials that are four weeks overdue will be assumed lost. Patrons will be billed for the materials.
Overdue fines are twenty cents per item per day to a maximum of $25. Special editions and/or unique materials will be charged the replacement cost plus a processing fee.
Services Available
Four public access computers are available to patrons. Sign in and out at the Circulation Desk. Printing fees may apply under some circumstances. Wireless Internet connection is available for patrons providing their own laptops.
A photocopy machine is available for public use at $.10 per printed page. Each person is responsible for copying in accordance with current copyright laws.
A typewriter is available for public use during library hours at a cost of $.10 per page.
There is a place for posting library news, and non-profit community information notices. All notices must be approved by library staff.
A meeting room is available.
The library building is accessible to the handicapped.
Current periodicals can be found near the fireplace and include local newspapers.
Special Collections include the Lewis & Clark, Montana and Large Type Books.
The Children’s Room contains materials for the very youngest through grade school. The Junior Collection has titles suitable for middle school through high school.
Responsibilities of Library Patrons
Patrons are responsible for library materials checked out and for returning them on time and in good condition.
Parents or guardians of minors are responsible for their children’s selection of reading materials and for their behavior in the library.
Patron must keep name, address and phone number current with the library.
Behavior which becomes disruptive to patrons and/or staff constitutes a public nuisance and the offending patron(s) will be asked to leave the building.
The Darby Community Public Library is not responsible for loss or damage to property of individuals or groups using the library.
Unauthorized removal of library property or damage to library property may result in prosecution.
Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the library building. Food or drink is allowed the lobby area only or during special functions as set by the Board of Trustees or the library director.
Animals are not allowed in the library building, except for service animals and on special occasions as permitted by the library director.
